This course is designed to introduce Ancient Greek and Roman-era Greek (Koine or Hellenistic) , via the intermediary route of formal-register Early Modern Greek, followed by various textbooks and resources for Attic and Hellenistic Greek..
Textbooks have been chosen that use this methodology.
This method was strongly recommended by Blackie, in his lecture "On the Living Language of the Greeks and its Utility to the Classical Scholar"
Pronunciation
I have decided to move to a Koine / Hellenistic pronunciation scheme. This is the pronunciation used during the Imperial Roman period.
Koine / Hellenistic Greek pronunciation is closer to Modern Greek pronunciation than the restored classical Attic.

The Greek spoken today is a fusion between the Demotic and the 'Classicised' early modern varieties of Greek, such as that used by Stedman. See the Wikipedia article on early Modern Greek Καθαρεύουσα
THE COURSE
The course as I propose to develop it (it is a work in progress):
1. Ollendorff's Greek Method
Index to Ollendorff's Greek and English Method After much searching, I located Nikolaos Kontopoulos' version of ολλενδορφείου μεθόδοs. An online copy of this textbook can be found at the Hathi Trust's online library. This is the Greek version of Adler's translation of Ollendorff - not to be confused with Kendrick's Ancient Greek version of Ollendorff. Kontopoulis' translation is in a heavily Atticised (deliberately antiqued) academic Early Modern Greek. The Key to his textbook can be found at the Anemi Digital Library.*The Ollendorff Method? 2. LAAS D'AGUEN STREAMING FILES
Index to Laas D'Aguen Koine (Restored Hellenistic - Koine Pronunciation)
Purpose: to rapidly learn vocabulary. This is always easier with some sort of context, which Laas D'Aguen provides. This textbook also has some verb paradigms in the first section, contained in very brief sentences.

Stedman in this version will be recorded using Hellenistic (Koine) pronunciation. Stedman uses the ancient forms of words, where available. The textbook points out the differences between Early Modern and Ancient Greek grammar as he proceeds.

This is a bare-bones Greek Grammar, written in simple and clear Latin.

Hoffman's useful book takes the Ancient Greek words found in English, and uses them to craft an introduction to Greek Vocabulary, which is useful for beginners. Hoffman will show you that you already know a lot more Greek than you thought you did.
