Latinum's Latin course has been in development since 2006. It comprises a number of audio courses, with a suggested study path.
Our Latin course is suitable for students who have studied before, but perhaps hit a roadblock, or new students starting out for the first time. Many students also use the course and supplementary resources as an add-on to existing courses they are taking, either privately, at school, or at university. A number of Latin teachers also use our resources for continuing professional development.
Our Latin course sequence begins with baby steps and advances by gradual degrees to postgraduate level and beyond.
This course is supplemented by an extensive Latin audiobook library - once again, please inspect the tabs and sub-menus for more information and lists of audiobooks.
Please take a look at the 'Beginner' tab and sub-menus in the Beginner section for more information about each of these.
The introductory course is the:
Serial and Oral Course
This is designed as a gentle introduction to Latin for new students - and has even been used with some success with young children.
The Serial and Oral course is specifically designed a pre-school course to Adler's Practical Grammar audio course.
Adler's Practical Grammar
Although this course contains the entire 900 plus page textbook, including the footnotes, it contains much more, having been designed as a stand alone audio course. It helps to look over chapters in the textbook before listening to an audio lesson of a chapter, but this is not necessary - the course can be used while you are at the gym or washing the dishes. Consulting the textbook is an optional extra - but note that the audio is not simply a reading of the textbook.
Comenius
Evan der Millner revived Comenius' renaissance courses and has incorporated his materials into the program, particularly as an aide to vocabulary building. Comenius is supported by a series of illustrated flipbooks, to reinforce the audio lessons.
For more advanced vocabulary study, Pexenfelder's Apparatus Eruditionis follows on from Comenius.
Prendergast (Mastery Series and Adler quizzes)
The Prendergast system works extremely well, but is hard work for a complete beginner (although a complete beginner could use it with considerable application). My intention is that Prendergast would serve as a suitable follow-on course from Adler.
Further audio courses have been recorded, including D'Ooge's 'Latin for Beginners'. These other courses are listed in the audiobook catalogue.
Post Feed
Please also check the post feed at Patreon for new episodes, as these appear in the post feed first, and are catalogued later.
Greek is provided as an introductory course. The newest segment is currently in production, using the Prendergast Mastery system to present Kontoupolos' Greek Ollendorff as a series of self testing exercises. Please see the Greek menu for more information. Other audio resources include Laas D'Aguen and Stedman.
A video based Hebrew reading (decoding) course is provided in full, using videos. A Biblical Hebrew language course using the Prendergast Method is currently in development, and the first section is available. Please see the sub-menu for more information.
Only a few lessons have been produced for this language to date, also using the Prendergast Method. The course as it stands take you through the first few verses of Genesis. Please see the sub-menus for more information.
Only a few lessons have been produced for this language to date; these lessons also use the Prendergast Method, and would be interesting for a student of the Bible. Please see the sub-menus for more information.
